The story of Shatranj
“Strategy, balance and the art of the considered move.”
Shatranj is chess in Hindi and Persian — the game of patience, foresight and quiet strategy that has travelled across centuries. These sculptural pieces borrow its silhouettes: crowned, rounded, stepped forms that stand together like a board mid-game.
Each piece is hand-shaped from acacia, and each has its own height and outline, so the set reads as a small society of shapes, every one with a role to play.
Shatranj is for rooms that enjoy a conversation piece — a still life that invites people to lean in, rearrange, and think.
In the light
I
The material
Acacia wood, shaped by hand. Each form is carved, sanded and finished so the grain follows the line of the piece.
II
Its character
Grain, tone and texture vary from piece to piece, so yours will differ slightly from the photographs. These variations are not flaws — they make it yours alone.
III
Care
Made for dried and preserved botanicals only. Keep away from water, moisture and direct heat. Wipe with a soft, dry cloth.
How to style Shatranj
Arrange the pieces as a still life on a coffee table or a long console, tall forms at the back. Move them now and then — like the game itself, the arrangement is never finished.
